Helen Josephine Asay, 95, of Belgrade, passed away February 6, 2009. She was born February 11, 1913 to Charles Lewis and Evea Mae (Berky) Hammond in Red Lodge, Montana. Helen grew up in Dryhead, Montana behind the Pryor Mountains on the west side of what was then the Big Horn River and is now Yellowtail Reservoir. At Dryhead she would ride her horse to school. She married Glenn Asay on September 15, 1937 and they moved to Lovell where they lived for twelve years. While in Lovell the couple had three sons, Jerry, Daniel and Ron. They moved to Limestone, which is just out of Nye, Montana where they ranched for five years. They moved to Boyd, Montana in 1955 where Glenn was killed in a combining accident in 1964. In 1965, Helen, Jerry and Ron moved to Big Timber, Montana where they lived for four years. In the early eighties she moved to Belgrade where she lived the rest of her life. In the early years she loved riding horses, ranching and being out of doors. She and Glenn were inseparable. She enjoyed gardening, mostly raising vegetables and Hollyhocks. Helen is survived by her sons Gerald (Patricia) Asay of Bozeman and Ronald Asay of Belgrade; her brother Les (Laura) Hammond of Camp Verde, Arizona, sister Gertrude Burk of St. Maries , Idaho, daughter in law Helen (Paul) Callahan of Belgrade, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glenn, son Daniel Lewis Asay, great grandson Michael Glenn Asay, four brothers and one sister. Visitation will be from 5:00 #8211; 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 10 at Dahl Funeral Chapel, the family will be present to greet friends between 6:00 and 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday February 11, also at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 12 in the Lovell Cemetery in Lovell, Wyoming. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.dahlcares.com.
