Helen Elaine (McDowell) Jones, 93, of Bozeman, MT, joined her heavenly family on Monday, April 3, 2023.
Helen was born on February 5, 1930, in Webb Lake, WI. She was the daughter of George and Charlotte McDowell and was the second oldest of eight children. She graduated high school and later went on to get her nursing degree.
On May 21, 1948, Helen was united in marriage to Clarence “Sonny” Jones. This marriage was blessed with four children, Sharon, David, Julianne and Lori. Helen and Sonny resided in Superior, WI. After retirement they moved to Bozeman, MT to be closer to grandkids and to enjoy the mountains. They shared 69 years of marriage when Sonny passed away in 2018.
Helen worked as a nurse in pediatrics and later in nursing homes. She was first and foremost a caregiver and enjoyed raising her children and later helping out with her grandchildren. She loved babies and children. Helen and Sonny were members of the Lutheran Church.
Helen enjoyed square dancing, the music of Johnny Cash, reading, puzzles and visiting over a cup of coffee and a doughnut. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends. After Sonny passed away she enjoyed living at the Beehive in Belgrade, MT where she made many good friends and enjoyed visiting with the staff. She will be remembered for her quick wit, exceptional gravy, and her marathon telephone conversations.
Helen is survived by her sister Gail “Tooty” (Ben) Keup, children Sharon (Byron) Nelson, David (Dawn) Jones, Julianne Rost and Lori (Tom) Brooks, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband Clarence “Sonny” Jones, parents George and Charlotte McDowell, sister Betty (Elroy) Undahl, brother George “Georgie” McDowell, brother Leon (Jane) McDowell, sister Geri (John) Harty, sister Adeline (Pete) Peterson, brother Raymond (Pat) McDowell, daughter-in-law Mary Jones and grandchildren Casey and Kinsey Jones.
Interment services for both Helen and Sonny will occur August 4th at 11:00 AM, at Greenwood Cemetery in Superior, WI.
