Harry Thompson, 84, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2009 in Bozeman, MT. Harry was born on June 9, 1924, the oldest of nine children to Magnus and Hannah (Svanes) Thompson. He was raised on the family farm in Kintyre, North Dakota. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Army and spent most of the following three years of active duty in the Philippines. On December 30, 1954, Harry married Delores Harry in Deer Lodge, MT. He spent his life as a cowboy and rancher with many of those years raising and showing Quarter Horses. He is a past President of the Montana Quarter Horse Association. Harry is survived by two daughters, Judy of Radersburg, MT and Denise of Bozeman; special grandson, Trent of Bozeman; five brothers, George Thompson of Bismarck, ND, Norman Thompson of Salt Lake City, UT, Charley (Sharon) Thompson of Toledo, OH, Ryer (Darlene) Thompson of Rugby, ND, and Harold (Delores) Thompson of Steele, ND; sister, Hazel (Don) Sinness of Bismarck, ND; brother-in-law Alvin Merkel of Bismarck, ND; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Delores; parents, Magnus and Hannah Thompson; sister, Shirley Thompson Merkel; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Elaine Thompson; sister-in-law, Lennis Thompson; nephew Rick Merkel and several cousins, aunts and uncles. Memorials in Harry#8217;s name may be made to Bozeman Deaconess Hospice c/o Bozeman Deaconess Foundation, 931 Highland Blvd, Ste. 3200, Bozeman, MT 59715 or to the charity of one#8217;s choice. Visitation will take place at Dahl Funeral Chapel from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 16, 2009. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 17, 2009 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
