Gretchen Locher passed away peacefully at 11:17pm on January 11, 2010. She was born in Ploestie, Romania on April 7, 1915 of American parents, where her father worked in the oil fields close by. She grew up there (along with her husband-to-be Walter Locher) and returned to reside in the United States during the 1930#8217;s. After marriage, she and Walter went to Venezuela where he worked in the developing oil industry. They moved to Georgia at the outbreak of World War II, and then returned to Venezuela for two more years before moving to Beirut, Lebanon. Gretchen lived in Lebanon with her family for twenty years until they retired and settled in North Carolina in 1969. After Walter died, she moved to Bozeman to be close to her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Al Zoller. She enjoyed traveling, reading, playing the piano, swimming and tennis. She is survived by her three children, Ralph Locher of Fremont, CA, Jeanne Zoller of Bozeman, MT, John Locher of Amherst, NH; two brothers, Walter Hoffman of Polk City, FL, and Al Hoffman of Greenville, SC; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. No memorial services are planned at this time. She will be interred near her summer home of many years in North Lovell, Maine. Thank you to Rocky Mountain Hospice and to the Memory Cottage at Highgate Senior Living for the loving care she received.
