Gretchen Joan “Jo” Lund passed away Thursday, February 24, 2022, in Bozeman, MT.
Born August 29, 1927, in Sheridan, WY to Andrew David Hindman and Frieda Roth Hindman. Jo was raised on the family homestead on Spring Willow Divide East of Sheridan, along with her brother Kenneth Roth Hindman. Jo lost her father when she was only 14, but continued to help with the ranch and graduated from Sheridan High School class of 1945. On July 31, 1947, Jo married her sweetheart Clyde G. Lund, also a Sheridan resident.
Although her early life was not an easy one Jo’s resilience, good nature and love of the outdoors and the union with Clyde was the combination for quite the fulfilling and adventures of life. Jo loved the mountains, enjoyed bird watching, hiking and the beautiful flowers that filled the meadows in spring and animals that roamed the woods.
Jo touched the lives of so many just by including them in her life as these few quotes reveal: “We all loved Jo;” “She was a great lady;” Jo “is and will always be one of my most favorite people;” “She was always so kind and happy. She had a smile that won’t be forgotten;” “One of the most special ladies I have known;” “I truly loved your mom;” “You have always been a part of who I am and what I have become;” “They (Jo and Clyde) were our booster club.”
Survivors include sons, Gerald (wife Paulina) of Edgewood, NM and Mark (wife Priscilla) of Bozeman, MT. Two grandchildren Britta Schroff and Christopher Lund and four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents David and Frieda Hindman, brother Ken Hindman, husband Clyde and companion of 37 years George Ostrum, Jr.
