Gordon Heimbuch, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Bozeman, Montana, on November 6, 2024, surrounded by family. Born on June 4, 1936, in Plevna, Montana, to Gideon and Emma (Schell) Heimbuch, Gordon grew up working on the family farm and ranch, helping run a Grade A dairy. He graduated from Plevna High School in 1954 and was deeply rooted in the Plevna community he loved.

Gordon was a skilled pilot, learning to fly from his father and spending much of his life in the air piloting his own plane. Gordon dedicated over 35 years as a volunteer firefighter in Plevna, always ready to support his neighbors in times of need. He was baptized, confirmed, and married to Gaile Phillips at Emanuel Evangelical Free Church, where he remained an active and devoted member until he retired to Bozeman, MT. Known for his love of community, Gordon found great joy in spending time with friends and lending a helping hand to those around him.

Gordon is survived by his beloved wife, Gaile, and their three sons; Eric, with wife Kim and daughters Taylor (and husband Jeff VanCleave), Avery, and Janessa; his son, Ray, with wife Susan and sons Dustin, Alex (and wife Natalie), and Konner; and his son, Brian, with wife Jo and children Michael (and wife Karly) and Kayla (and husband Josh Dailey). Gordon’s legacy continues through his cherished great-grandchildren: Brayden, Jordan, Emma Grace, Daniel, and Nolan Dailey; Addie and Ellie Heimbuch; Teaghan Lengowski; Ava and Brooks VanCleave, and Xeive Heimbuch. He is also survived by his sister, Thelma Hamby, and her daughters, Kaye and Julie (and husband Scott Swenson). Additionally, he leaves behind cousins Herb Schell, Karl and Fred Heberle, Arlene Heimbuch, Jim Leischner and Jackie Rieger, as well as in-laws Roy and Lael Phillips, Ron and Glenda Nadwornick, and Orrin Hardinger. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Gideon and Emma Heimbuch; his mother-in-law Betty Phillips and father-in-law John Phillips; and his brother-in-law Chuck Hamby.

Gordon’s kindness, dedication to family, and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. A service to honor his life will be held in Plevna Montana in the spring/summer 2025. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
