Geoffrey Alexander D#8217;Atri, 66, of Willow Creek passed away Monday August 29, 2011. Geoff was born December 9, 1944 in Canton, Ohio to Alexander and Donna (Helwig) D#8217;Atri. He grew up in Kent, Ohio, graduating from Kent State University High School, where he was a State Champion in Swimming in 1962; he was also a member of the University of Michigan Swim Team. He was married to Mary Beth Gaskin of Roswell, New Mexico on August 6, 1966. The couple had two children, Dawn Michelle and Alexander Bert. He received his Bachelor#8217;s Degree, Master#8217;s Degree and Specialist Degree in Education from the University of Michigan, and later received his Doctor of Education from Montana State University in 1982. Later that year, he worked as the Acting Assistant Dean for MSU. Geoff worked as the Director of Institutional Planning at Eastern Montana College in Billings and the Acting Dean of Students at Northern Montana College in Havre before returning to work at MSU, this time as a Project Specialist, Counselor, and Project Coordinator. In 1989, he became the owner of Choices Counseling and Consulting in Bozeman, where he also was a Psychotherapist and Professional Counselor until his retirement in 1998. He received many awards during his career at MSU, including the Faculty Excellence Award in 1991, the Outstanding Faculty Teaching award in 1992 and the Student and Staff Appreciation Award in 1994. Geoff was a proud member of the American Counseling Association, the Association for Specialists in Group Work, and Montana Counseling Association. In addition, he was a member of the Gallatin Valley Mended Heart Association, on the Board of Directors for the Gallatin Valley Mental Health Consortium, the Headwaters Kiwanis Club and a Charter Member of Bozeman Sunrise Rotary. He authored numerous publications and presented at many workshops throughout his career. He particularly enjoyed camping, ice and snow plane sailing, and many other outdoor activities. He loved travelling, both domestic and foreign. Even after retirement, he enjoyed household repair and light construction work around his home. Geoff was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Alexander, in 1995. Survivors include his sister, Barbara D#8217;Atri of Goodyear, AZ; brother, E. Lang (Jayne) D#8217;Atri of Hartville, OH; daughter, Dawn of Germany; two grandchildren of Germany; dear friend Helen Flath of Belgrade; many nieces#8217; nephews and cousins. Visitation Friday, September 2, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral services 1 pm, Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Dahl Funeral Chapel, followed by interment at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
