Genevieve Marx

December 10, 1922 — February 16, 2009

Genevieve Marx, a lifelong resident of the Gallatin Valley passed away on February 16, 2009 from natural causes. Genevieve was born in Belgrade on December 10, 1922 to Bob and Hazel (Brownell) Nisbet. She attended country school, first grade at Valley View, north of Belgrade, Menard, Dry Creek and Belgrade schools, graduating from high school in Manhattan on May 19, 1941 in what was the largest class at that time. During school vacation month and after graduating, she helped cook for hired help and combiners by Menard on the Jim Border ranch. She worked in the Catalogue Department for Montgomery Ward in Bozeman, was Assistant Manager for Gamble Store in Manhattan, helped during tax times for accountant Harold Sadler in Bozeman, and at the A.S.C. office in the Bozeman Court House. On March 3, 1946 Genevieve married Donald Marx of Bozeman. They remained married for 57 years. To this union, six sons were born to them. She and Don farmed north of Belgrade in the Dry Creek Community for several years before moving back to the home ranch south of Belgrade. She loved to cook, collected recipes and canned many jars of goodies. She enjoyed being a homemaker for her family. She dedicated her life to the love of her family, grandchildren, any anyone around her. She loved people and always had her home open to anyone. While living up Dry Creek for many years, she belonged to a neighborhood club called #8220;The Jolly Neighbors#8221;. She was a 63 year old member of #8220;Neighbor of Woodcraft Lodge#8221;. She was room mother several years for different grades in the Belgrade School. Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Hazel Nisbet, her husband Donald Marx, daughter-in-law Patsy (Evans) Marx, and twin grandsons. Survivors include her six sons and their families: Bob and Barbara (Kurk) Marx, Dick and Norma (Huttinga) Marx, Jim and Anna May (Suhr) Marx, Daniel Marx, Ron Marx, and Tim and Jan (Francis, Rushford) Marx, all of Bozeman; eight grandchildren, Dawn (Scott) Kruez of Bozeman, Amy (Don) Burkenpas of Bozeman, Mike Marx of Belgrade, Mathew (Crystal) Marx of Three Forks, Jeff (Alysan) Marx of Spokane, WA, Mary (Cody) Smith of Townsend, Pat Marx of Bozeman, and Jordan Quale of Minnesota; five step-grandchildren, Matt Printz of Belgrade, Amanda Watts of Cincinatti, OH, Patricea, Isaiah and Quincey (Rushford) Marx, all of Bozeman; her first and only great-grandchild, Sawyer Marx; sister Phyllis Nisbet and long-time family friend May McCune, both of Idaho Falls, ID; brother-in-law Laurence Marx and sister-in-law Marcella Dolezalik, both of Billings; and several cousins, other family members, and friends. Memorials in Genevieve#8217;s name may be donated to the charity of one#8217;s choice. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, February 20, 2009 at Belgrade Community Church.
