Frank Theodore Sundeen

d. July 29, 2024

Bozeman

Frank Sundeen died peacefully at age 87 on July 29, 2024, in the home of his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters in Bozeman, MT.

Frank is preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara with whom he spent nearly 50 wonderful years. He is survived by his son Curtis and daughter-in-law Kristina (Bozeman), his cherished granddaughters Emma (Waltham, MA) and Lila (Bozeman), daughter Cathryn and son-in-law Adam Hubel (Missoula), his late-in-life sweetheart, Frankie Eagle, her children Kristie and Scott McPhie, Kim and Darla Eagle, Kendra and Arnie Owen, Jack and Vickie Eagle and their families.

Frank was born on April 14, 1937 at Moline Public Hospital in Moline, IL to Carl Joseph and Grace Marie Sundeen. He was raised with his younger brother Joe in a lovely small town called Orion, IL. After high school, Frank joined the Army and was stationed in New York City. Later, he worked as a computer programmer, owned his own temporary job service with Barb, and worked as an auditor for the State of Illinois. He was active in local politics serving on the Moline City Council as Alderman and Mayor Pro Tempore and as Chairman of the Rock Island County Republicans. Frank was also a passionate member of Rotary, taking pride in perfect attendance. He also played the cornet and was an excellent swing dancer. He and his daughter never passed up an opportunity to dance to Glenn Miller's In the Mood or sing The Little Brown Mouse.

In 2002, he and Barb moved from Illinois to Bozeman to be near their children and grandchildren where he became active in the S Club and American Legion #30. He took great pride in his military service.

His children remember him as a fun-loving dad who was always there for them. He coached their sports teams, attended every school function, and participated with them in scouts. The family spent summers camping and canoeing and were always surrounded by friends and family. He was also a master at being able to fix anything with a piece of string and some duct tape.

His granddaughters remember him as being the ultimate family man. He spent many hours with them in the garage putzing around, making chocolate pudding (a favorite of his), or letting them paint his toenails blue. He was the most enthusiastic audience member at school events and brought balloons to every birthday. He was made to be a grandpa.

Frank’s/Dad’s/Grampy’s sense of humor, silliness, and deep love for his family will be sorely missed.

Just Another Adventure, Pops! Hip Hip…Hooray!

A memorial service will be held later in the summer. The family would like to thank Hospice and his caregivers at Eden Health as well as all of those who stopped by for a visit or sent cards, letters and photos from afar. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice.
