Evelyn “Evie” Lucille King, 61, of Three Forks, Montana, was born on June 24, 1961 in Cherry Point, North Carolina to William “Bill” Owens and Nancy Owens. She grew up in Havelock, North Carolina with her three siblings, Ellie, Bud, and Andy. She married her husband Shane on March 4, 1988.
Evie served honorably in the Air Force before leaving military service when her daughter was born. She was incredibly talented and loved working as a pharmacy technician, both in North Carolina and in Montana. Evie and Shane moved to Montana in 2018 and were immediately smitten with the state and the beauty of the mountains and creatures in big sky country. She loved gardening, drawing, and playing with her dogs, RaRa and Hamilton. More than anything, she loved her family and worked tirelessly to ensure that they knew how much she cared.
She found great comfort in her faith in God; she loved the Lord, and she lived her day-to-day life constantly seeking to be of service to others in His name. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, and friend to all that knew her. Evie had a rarely found purity of heart and love for all of God’s creations, from her husband and children to Chloe the chicken, who had a broken leg and rode on Evie’s shoulder like a parrot until it healed. She never once met a stranger and was the type of woman who wouldn’t think twice about giving away all the furniture in her house if she met someone who she thought needed it.
She was preceded in death by her father Bill, her mother Nancy, an older brother, and her eldest son, Dustin. The love that she had for her parents and Dustin is beyond measure. Evie was, and will forever be, a “daddy’s girl.”
Left to cherish her memory are: her husband, Shane King; her son and daughter-in-law, Steven King and Ashley [Campbell], her daughter and son-in-law, Shayna and Jeremy Matheny, her three grandsons, Jordan, Justin, and Jacob Matheny; her sister, Ellie Kubilis [Chris], and niece and nephew, Heather (Johnny) Alexander and Adam (Christine) Nehls; her brother William “Bud” (Patricia) Owens; her brother, Andrew (Jennifer) Owens; niece, Amanda Owens and mother Deborah Bennett; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Connie and Michael Scaggs; her father-in-law, Richard King; her brother-in-law, Robert King; and every person who met her and saw her beautiful, loving heart.
Evie passed away on the evening of January 9, 2023. Her viewing will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023 from 12:30-1:30 PM at Dahl Funeral & Cremation Service in Bozeman, Montana. A graveside service will follow the viewing at 2:30 PM, at Fairview Cemetery in Three Forks, Montana.
