Elizabeth Maroney, 71, died peacefully at her home in Belgrade on July 27th, surrounded by family, after a 3 year battle with cancer. She was the widow of Ronald Francis Maroney who passed away in August of 2015. They shared 49 happy years together and we take great comfort in knowing that they are once again united.
She was affectionately known as Betty, Betty Jane, Aunt Betty, B, and Oma. Betty was born on March 7, 1942 in Bozeman, Montana, to Wieber and Jennie (Kamps) Veltkamp. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and siblings Willie, Sylvia, Gary, and Gertrude.
Betty attended school in Gallatin Gateway and Belgrade, graduating from Belgrade High in 1963. She graduated from Mr. Mac’s Beauty School in Bozeman and went on to a long career in cosmetology, owning and operating several salons over the years including the Ladi Bugg in Belgrade.
Betty took great pleasure in being a caretaker to all she came to meet. Her love was the most important ingredient in the food and treats she prepared for family and friends. Betty’s care for her customers was not just about doing their hair. She was a listener, counselor, and confidant to so many over the years.
Betty cherished time spent camping, playing games, playing piano, and singing with her grandchildren. Oma’s house was the gathering place for the family and extended family for many, many holidays and potlucks over the years. She welcomed all into the family with an open heart and unending, unconditional love.
Betty is survived by her sons Ken (Kimberly) Maroney of Boise, Dan (Carrie) Maroney of Belgrade, Kevin (Katie) Maroney of Belgrade; daughter Denise (Michael) Maczewski also of Belgrade; grandchildren Emily, Abigail, Grace and Allison Maroney, Jennie, Logan, and Kaden Maczewski, Chris, Tabytha, and Dillon Maroney, Audrey and Jacob Maroney. She is also survived by her brothers Bob and Hank Veltkamp and her sister Catherine Greydanus, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Betty is to be held at Holy Rosary Parish at 9AM on Weds. Aug. 3rd. The Funeral Mass will begin at 10AM, followed by her internment at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Frontage Rd. near Belgrade. A potluck will be given at Betty’s house following her internment, located at 518 East Gallatin Ave Belgrade, MT 59714.
Memorials may be made to the Bozeman Health Foundation (Innovation and Excellence Fund-Cancer Center) 931 Highland Blvd., Suite 3200, Bozeman, MT 59715.
