Donald James Vick, 76, of Belgrade, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at his home. He was born March 15, 1938 in Denver, Colorado to Donald Denver and Mildred Marie (Riordan) Vick. Donald loved swimming as a young man; he was an award winning all-state swimmer with especially strong breast and butterfly strokes. He also worked as a lifeguard at several local pools. He graduated from North High School in 1956. Following his graduation from High School he took some mechanical drawing classes. Donald married Sharlene Marie Savage on March 29, 1958 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Denver, Colorado. They remained in Denver the next fifty-three years before moving to Belgrade, Montana in 2011. Donald served our Country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1963. During his life he worked as a Manager of Manufacturing, and assisted in the design of mineral separation tables for Humphrey’s Engineering (1956-1989) and Carpco (1989-1991). This lead to numerous domestic and foreign trips to Sierra Leone and Labrador to oversee equipment installation. He also worked for ARDCO for many years before retiring in 2008. Donald was a history buff, enjoyed photography, collecting Disney limited edition collectables and was concerned about animal welfare, especially the rescue of Great Pyrenees dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Sharlene; son Jeffrey (Jacquelyn Campeau) Vick of Bozeman, MT; two daughters: Stacy (Stephen Bolan) Teasdale of Lakewood, CO, and Sarah (Tou) Vang of Broomfield, CO; 6 grandchildren: Teresa Vick, Ashley Teasdale, Aidan and Anson Bolan, Nickalas and David Vang; 2 sisters: Beverly Joseph of Arvada, CO and Carol Magee of Parkville, MO. Cremation has taken place. An open house to remember Donald will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 3:00-6:00 at Donald’s home, 46 Clinton Ln, Belgrade, MT. An additional gathering will be held in Denver later this summer, date TBA. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his name to Great Pyrenees Rescue and Sanctuary Inc., 13990 Windy Pine Drive, Elbert, CO, 80106.
