Dean Stout

November 25, 1937 — December 8, 2011

Dean Raymond Stout, of Belgrade, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, December 8, 2011. Dean was born November 25, 1937 in Missoula, MT to Virgil and Leona (Hines) Stout along with his identical twin brother Donald Lloyd Stout. Dean was raised in Arrow Creek, MT and attended Stanford High School. He was a proud member of the 1955 State Class C basketball championship team. After high school he served in the United States Air Force in Texas. Dean married Darlene Stephens in 1959 and out of this union their child Doug was born. The couple later divorced. Dean moved to Bozeman in 1969 and worked for Peavey Grain Elevators in Bozeman. In 1975 he started his own grain elevator business in Belgrade called Independent Grain, from which he acquired many life-long friends. He owned and operated the business until 1991. He then worked for Karst Stage and Gallatin Field Airport as a delivery specialist. Dean met Pam Matzinger at a dance hall in Windham, MT and the couple later married on July 5, 1975 in Bozeman. Dean was an accomplished hunter and fisherman and loved to eat trout every chance he got. He loved attending his grandchildren#8217;s sporting and musical events. Dean was a very lucky man, he enjoyed going to Jackpot, NV and coming home with winnings. Most of all, Dean will be remembered for his unprecedented work ethic. Dean was also a phenomenal listener. People were very apt to open up to him because it was obvious that he really cared about what they were saying. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his son DeWayne and daughter-in-law Debbie Stout; his brothers Donald and Keith; sister Katherine. Survivors include his wife Pam; son and daughter-in-law Doug and Julie Stout; step-sons Keith Nelsen, Doug Nelsen, and Nick (Shawn) Nelsen, all of Belgrade; grandchildren Alex (Megan) Stout of Bozeman, Whitney Nelsen of Bozeman, Leslie (Zeb) Miller of Four Corners, Corey Beley of Belgrade, and Laura Stout of Belgrade; and great-grandchildren Wyatt, Halle, and Julien. A Visitation will be held from 12:00pm-4:00pm on Sunday at Dahl Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am on Monday at the Belgrade Community Church, 119 South Broadway, Belgrade with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Rocky Mountain Hospice. Memorials may be made in Dean#8217;s name to Rocky Mountain Hospice, 301 Edelweiss Dr., Suites 5 6, Bozeman, MT 59718.
