Dan was born in Glasgow, Montana on June 30, 1951 to Forrest and Mary Jo Wesen and passed away on February 1, 2025 at the age of 73 in Bozeman, MT after an extended illness. Dan’s parents were both Montana Natives and during his Father’s work assignments Dan spent his younger years in Malta, Havre, Helena and finally Bozeman. He attended St. Helena’s Grade School and Helena Central High School through his freshman year. His family then moved to Bozeman and Dan attended Rosary High School graduating in 1969. He also attended Montana State University for two and one half years before becoming a butcher for 10 years. After that he became an expert carpenter/craftsman for 30 years before retiring.
He married Marla Kensmoe Joos on May 21, 1980. Their only child, John, was born on December 17, 1983. Dan was an excellent outdoorsman, hunting and fishing in most of Montana and some in Alaska, one of his favorite places. Dan was a Montana history buff and collector of Montana memorabilia with his specialty being firearms. He published a book in 2023 entitled, “Treasures of Montana – Firearms of Those Who Settled and Established the State”.
Dan was preceded in death by his wife Marla, parents Forrest and Mary Jo and brother Dave. He is survived by his son John, brothers Mark (Cindy) and Tom, sister Diane (Bill) Harn and beloved nieces, nephews and extended family members. The Wesen family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Enhabit Hospice for all of their effort above and beyond the Call of Duty for their care of Dan. A celebration of life will take place on February 11, 2025 at Dahl Funeral & Cremation Service at 11:00 AM. Please join the family for a reception following the service.
