Cynthia Ann Chura

February 4, 1930 — May 28, 2012

From the beginning to the end, Cynthia Ann Chura called Montana home. She was born and raised along the Yellowstone River in Forsyth to William and Edna Corcoran. While taking the train to a summer job at a dude ranch in upstate New York, she met her future husband and life-long best friend Peter Chura. Cynthia Chura, 82 passed away on Memorial Day, May 28, 2012. Cynthia and Peter were married among the autumn leaves on a beautiful October day at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in 1952. The couple hand-built Forsyth's first and only A &W restaurant. After the birth of their first two children, Theresa and Jerome, they moved to Idaho Falls where their third child, Jeffrey, was born. They later moved to Las Vegas, where Cynthia transitioned from a full-time home maker to a professional Field Investigator for the National Labor Relations Board. Upon retirement, Cynthia and Peter relocated to Gallatin Gateway where they started a western lodging business called Canyon Cabins. In 2003, they moved into Bozeman, where she spent many mornings swimming at the Ridge and evenings admiring the Bridger mountain range sunsets. Cynthia was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a Forester. Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, son Jeffrey, siblings Helen Herzel (Rudy) and Sister Mary Agnes. She is survived by her husband, Peter of Bozeman; son Jerome (Elizabeth) Chura of Gallatin Gateway; daughter Theresa Lowey of Reno, NV; grandchildren James Lowey, Collin Lowey, Karen (David) Laman, Haley Chura, Hannah Chura; great grandchildren; Ethan, Zion, Ciara and Ryder Laman. A rosary service will be held at 6:00pm on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Bozeman Catholic Community Center with interment to follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. The family deeply appreciates the loving care and support provide by Hospice of Southwest Montana, the Gallatin Rest Home, Dr. John Robbins, Father Leo Proxell and the Holy Rosary Catholic Community.
