Chester Marlow

April 29, 1919 — June 26, 2009

Chester Chet Marlow, 90, of Bozeman, Montana, passed away Friday, June 26, 2009. Chet was born on April 29, 1919 in Chinook, Montana to Edward and Anna (Rasmussen) Marlow. He married Arlie Bykonen on December 11, 1945 in Chinook. Together they had three sons, Dennis, Doug and Dick. Chet quit school at an early age to work on the family ranch in Chinook and neighboring ranches as a cowboy. He worked for the CCC during the depression and worked in shipyards on the west coast. Chet worked for the Highway Department and Toole County while the family lived in Sunburst and Shelby and became a car salesman after the family moved to Bozeman. Most recently he worked at Montana State University. He and Arlie spent many winters in southern California and enjoyed camping and golfing. When his eyesight began to fail they stayed closer to Bozeman and Chet enjoyed listening to books on tape and watching westerns on his big screen TV. Grandpa Chet enjoyed the grandkids and watching his great grandkids play. The noise never bothered him, mostly because he turned his hearing aid off! Chet was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlie; son, Doug; grandchildren, Mike and Sally Ann; four sisters and one brother. Survivors include his sons, Dennis (Bobbie) Marlow of Bozeman and Dick (Bev) Marlow of Helena; grandchildren Heather (Steve) Gabris of Roanoke, Virginia, Lisa (Curtis) Johnson of Bozeman, Darrell (Jill) Marlow of Kalispell and Stephanie King of Helena; great-grandchildren, Zandrya and Dane Gabris, Oscar and Aldin Johnson, Blake, Logan, and Addison Marlow, and Mackenzie and Kylie King; and his sister, Gloria Farrar of Bozeman. Memorials can be made in Chet's name to the Talking Books Library at the Montana State Library, PO Box 201800, Helena, MT 59620-1800. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Bozeman, Montana.
