Chadwick A. Groth

June 25, 1935 — June 28, 2015

Chadwick A. Groth lost his courageous battle with cancer June 28, 2015. Chad was born June 25, 1935 to Hazel R. and Arthur E. Groth in Minneapolis, MN.

Chad lived in Seattle during his early school years, moving to Bozeman his sophomore year and graduating from Gallatin High School in 1953. He attended Montana State College in 1954 and graduated from Edison Tech in Seattle as a journeyman auto mechanic.

He married Florence Hulbert September 1st 1972.

Through the years Chad worked as Service Manager at Rolfe and Wood, as an internal fabrication technician at the ERL lab at MSU and retired from Publications and News Service at MSU in 1991. He built an aluminum truck topper business, Gallery Tops, which he operated for about 20 years.

Chad loved being outdoors - hiking in the Spanish Peaks and cross country skiing. He started up the Bozeman Jeep club (Mountaineers) in 1962 as result of his passion for getting off the beaten path. Chad was also an avid spelunker. He always enjoyed photography and spent many happy hours in the dark room developing pictures.

Chad was Master of the Gallatin Masonic Lodge #6 in 1973 where he also served as a trustee for many years and was recently awarded his 50 year pin. He was a member of Frank B. Lewis Chapter DeMolay which is now Ross C. Jensen.

Chad and Florence were involved with the South Willson Avenue street light Christmas decorations for a number of years.

Chad is survived by his wife, Florence of Bozeman; son Terry (Lynn) of Canyon Ferry; son Tony of Townsend; step-daughters Connie (Steve) Mannix and Debbie (Roy) Kaiser of Bozeman and grandsons James and Justin Kaiser. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Becky Downey of Bozeman, Bette Beaudoin of Butte, Bebe Spring of Billings and brother-in-law and wife, W. L. and Carol Edens of Portland, Oregon as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Chad is preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Landon Groth.

There will be a celebration of Chad’s life July 12th at the Masonic Temple No. 18, 14 S. Tracy, with Masonic Rites beginning at 2 o’clock followed by a coffee hour.
