Brett Jay Wagner, age 52, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018 following a brief illness. Brett was born in Bozeman on November 5, 1965 to Thomas and Clara Wagner. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas, in 2003, and his mother, Clara, in 2007. Brett is survived by his daughter, Carrie Diana Michelle Wagner; one sister, Sandra Murphy; five brothers, Douglas, Timothy, and Rodney, of Billings, Ronald of Belgrade, and Brad of Laurel, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Brett attended Bozeman Senior High School, graduating in June of 1984, after which he joined the Army where he learned to drive tanks, sparking a lifelong passion and interest in building model tanks, antique automobiles, airplanes, and space vehicles. Brett married Rose Mary Loterbauer in 1990 and Carrie was born in 1992. Brett and Rose were later divorced. Brett enjoyed the outdoors and spent a lot of time, whenever possible, camping, boating, water skiing, kayaking, and tubing. He also enjoyed gardening and target shooting. Brett was a bootmaker by trade and was very proud of the boots he made and wore. Brett was musically talented, playing the drums in the Bozeman High School band. He also played the piano learning musical pieces by ear. His favorite musical artists were Sarah Brightman, Celine Dion, Def Leopard and classical music. Brett was an avid reader, primarily of science fiction, action, and drama. His favorite authors were Arthur C. Clark, Frank Herbert, and Clive Cussler. Brett also learned and thoroughly enjoyed ballroom dancing and participated as often as he could. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
