Bob Kurzenhauser

Bozeman nature photographer Bob Kurzenhauser passed away Monday, May 30, at the age of 61 following a long illness. Born November 15, 1949, in Oceanside, N.Y., to Curtis and Mary (Cassello) Kurzenhauser, Bob served four years in the U.S. Air Force before attending Western Maryland College on a basketball scholarship. He later earned his M.S. in sports administration at Kent State University. Bob worked several years in Yellowstone National Park before moving to Bozeman 30 years ago. He taught himself photography after hurting his back, and he became a freelance professional. His work has been featured in many publications; one of his photos, of wildflowers, graced an iconic Montana poster. A perfectionist, he was one of only a handful of nature photographers to eschew digital. He also enjoyed painting, swimming, reading, and, especially, being outdoors. Bob wanted to be remembered as a #8220;nice guy#8221; who lived free and treated people fairly. A man of wit, humor, and integrity, he lived simply, in harmony with nature. He is survived by his parents and his brother, Tom. A celebration of Bob#8217;s life will be held at the Langhor Campground in Hyalite Recreation Area on Monday, June 6, at 5:00 p.m.
