Betty C. Baier, 85, of West Yellowstone and Bozeman, passed away May 12, 2012 at her home in West Yellowstone. She was born December 28, 1926 in Hamilton, MT to Danish immigrants Christopher and Anne Marie (Neilson) Christensen. She graduated from high school in Hamilton. She spent her summers as a telephone operator in West Yellowstone, MT, while she was attending a secretarial college in Phoenix for Medical and Legal Secretarial Training. Following her graduation from secretarial school she was working in Frederick, MD, where she met Harold Baier. They were married in 1956, they made their home in Maryland, while living in Maryland, and they traveled to Montana every summer, visiting Hamilton and West Yellowstone. In 1972 they moved to West Yellowstone, they also enjoyed traveling, some favorite trips where New Zealand, Normandy for the 50th Anniversary of D-Day and Denmark to visit relatives. Betty took and active part in her children’s lives, volunteering in the schools and teaching her daughter teaching her the Native American Culture. She enjoyed needlework, was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and a member of St. James Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, and her Brother Harry. Survivors include her son Hans C. “Chris” Baier of West Yellowstone, MT; her daughter Olivane “Libby” Baier of Ronan, MT; 2 grandsons Wendall and Savas; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in West Yellowstone. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Harold Baier Scholarship Fund, Yellowstone Basin Bank, P.O. Box 1810, West Yellowstone, MT 59758.
