Barbara Jean Constance Williams Wimbish passed away December 11, 2016 at Bearcreek Respite Care Center, Bozeman, Montana, in the loving embrace of family. A memorial service will be held in the spring at her family home in Clover, Virginia.
Barbara was born in August 1934 in Clover, Virginia to Paul and Henrietta (Brown) Williams. Although official records list Barbara’s date of birth as August 14th, she always celebrated her birthday on August 15th. Barbara said her mother told her she was born on August 15th and if anyone should know when she was born, it was her mother!
Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy, Barbara moved to Meriden, Connecticut where she married Alfred Byrd Wimbish Sr. Barbara lived in Meriden until 2012 when she moved to Montana. Barbara and Alfred were blessed with eleven children, 42 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Alfred, her parents, fourteen siblings (seven brothers and seven sisters), daughters Pameline Brereton and Ramona Harrison and son Spencer Wimbish.
Survivors include Barbara’s brothers Paul Williams, Washington D.C. and Calvin (Lynda) Wimbish, Pennsylvania; sister Mamie Duncan, Massachusetts; sons John (Tricia) Wimbish, Montana; Alfred Wimbish Jr., Connecticut; Paul (Victoria) Wimbish, Colorado; Daniel Wimbish, Connecticut; Jason (Stefanie) Wimbish, Texas; daughters Aliyyah (Bilal) Ashanti, New York; Roselyn Wimbish, Connecticut; Barbara Allison (Michael) Townsend, Connecticut; son-in-law Theodore Harrison, Arizona; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara took care of all those around her whether it was her parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, friends or co-workers. She loved to ride in the car and wouldn’t sleep a wink so she didn’t miss anything! Barbara had a wonderful laugh and a quiet sense of humor.
