Arthur (Art) Shellenberg, Montana native son, changed camp on April 2, 2025. His care has been entrusted to Dahl Funeral and Cremation Service.
Born in Livingston, April 23, 1926, he attended and graduated from Park County High School in 1944 and served in the Navy, Pacific Theater, during World War II. He then returned to Montana and tried various occupations around the Livingston area including a custom baling operation, Yellowstone National Park, and The Northern Pacific Railroad. In 1951 he was hired by Montana Power in Helena becoming a lineman (in the days before bucket trucks) and eventually a substation foreman in Bozeman. Early in that career he met his future wife, Joy (one of the office workers), and they were married on June 6, 1953. Their daughter Laura and son Jeff were born in Helena.
In 1974, the family moved to Bozeman (when it was still a sleepy little town) built a home and continued to reside there until his death. Art retired from Montana Power after 37 years of service in 1988. Before and after retirement he enjoyed all his home state had to offer- the outdoors, camping, hunting, hiking, woodworking, and just being close to family and friends. With later years came great pride in his grandkids and great grandkids.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, Gottfried and Mathilda who both immigrated from Switzerland, and all his siblings: Fred Shellenberg (Livingston), Evelyn Strong (Livingston), Anna Bair (Colorado), and John Shellenberg (Livingston).
He is survived by his son, Jeff (Ruth) Shellenberg of Bozeman; daughter, Laura Estes of Billings; grandchildren, Cody Sigler of Bozeman, Corinne Hammond (Clint) of Huntley, Randilee (Pat) Groff of Bozeman, Trevor Shellenberg of Bozeman, Tyler (Molly) Shellenberg of Washington. He has six great-grandchildren, Everett and Scarlett Hammond, Cambria and Everleigh Groff, Morgan Sigler, and Petra Shellenberg. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
