Amy Mcevoy Simpson

September 20, 1930 — July 16, 2019

Amy McEvoy Simpson, 88, of Livingston, died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, July 16, 2019. A native of Liverpool, England, Amy was born on September 20, 1930, the daughter of Walter McEvoy and Margaret (Jones) McEvoy; she was one of eight siblings.

At age 8, Amy was evacuated from Liverpool to Wales to escape German bombing raids during World War II. She lived in Caernarfon, Wales until she was 13 when she returned to Liverpool. The family with whom she lived in Wales remained important to her for decades. At 14, Amy left school to begin working to support herself. Before immigrating to the United States, she spent 18 months in a sanatorium due to having contracted tuberculosis which resulted in having half of one lung removed.

On June 30, 1960, Amy arrived in Seattle, Washington and lived with friends she met through her Welsh family. On May 10, 1962, Amy went on a blind date with Lewis Lombard Simpson. They were married eleven weeks later on July 27. Their first child, Amy Marcy, was born the following April. Three years later, Julia Margaret joined the family. Amy was a full-time mother and homemaker who was proud of keeping a welcoming home, tending a beautiful garden, preparing delicious meals, drinking proper English tea, playing card and board games to the wee hours of the morning, enjoying a good gin & tonic and telling funny stories.

In 1971, the family moved from Seattle to Spokane, Washington. Although fiercely proud of her British heritage, during the American Bicentennial year, Amy became a naturalized citizen of the United States. She was extremely proud of her adopted country and flew the American Flag virtually every day.

Livingston, Montana became home beginning in the fall of 1976. Amy was actively involved in the theatre community and acted in countless plays at both the Blue Slipper and Fire House, she volunteered for the Red Cross, participated on the Friends of the Library board and entered hundreds of items into the Park County Fair - proudly winning Grand Champion awards for her knitting and food items on multiple occasions.

Amy was predeceased by her husband, Lewis Simpson, daughter, Julia Simpson, and several siblings (John, Peggy and Walter). She is survived by her daughter, Marcy (Tom) Euler of Tucson, Arizona and grandchildren, Amy Euler (Tucson), and Ian Euler (Ft. Hood, Texas). Her surviving British relatives include brothers Billy and Ronnie McEvoy and sisters Betty Meredith and Jean McEvoy. Amy was particularly close to Heidi McEvoy-Swift (Bury St. Edmonds, England), Guy McEvoy (Rugby, England), Kathy Lyerly (Richmond, Virginia), Cheryl McElroy (Alexandria, Virginia) and many special friends in Livingston, Bozeman, across the country and around the world.

Amy’s family and close friends wish to thank the doctors, nurses, therapists and staff members at Livingston Health Care, the Livingston Health and Rehabilitation Center and Compassus Hospice for their loving care.

Cremation has taken place and Amy will be interred with her husband in Tahoma National Cemetery in Washington State. A memorial service honoring Lew, Amy and Julie will take place in the fall at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to the Friends of the Livingston-Park County Public Library (PO Box 2072 Livingston, MT 59047) or the Livingston Food Resource Center (202 S 2nd St. Livingston, MT 59047). .
