Alice M. Ackerman

On Sunday, June 5, 2016 - God’s Day of Rest, Alice Ackerman, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born to George and Marie (Blomer) VanHoorn in Bozeman, MT on April 25, 1928. Alice attended school in Belgrade and graduated in 1946. She worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Bozeman. Later she married Eldon W. Ackerman on June 28, 1956, at Holy Rosary Parish in Bozeman. Alice enjoyed baking bread, reading, gardening, and completing daily crossword puzzles. She dedicated her life to our Lord and the needs of her family while living on the farm east of Belgrade. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Herman and Henry, and sister Hermina VanHoorn.

She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Eldon; brother Ben VanHoorn of Bozeman, MT, and sister Marie Mikkelson of Olathe, KS. Alice has several children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Children include son, Anthony Ackerman (formerly Gale Taylen) of Belgrade, MT, their daughter Amber Erickson (Ryan) of Baker, MT and their eight children, Zade, Blaize, Lilli, Elijah, Emma, Daizzi, Benjamin, and Oliver, son Eric (Hitomi) Ackerman of Las Vegas, NV, and daughter Autumn Maggard (LaRue) of Houston, TX; daughter Colleen Nelson (Gary) of Laveen, AZ; son Gregory Ackerman of Belgrade, MT; son Timothy (Darcy) Ackerman of Townsend, MT, their daughter Andrea; son Thomas (Sherry) Ackerman of Troutdale, OR; daughter Janine Mahn (Karl) of Belgrade, MT, their son Travis and his daughter Rosalee of Belgrade, MT, son Trevor of Laveen, AZ; and daughter Barbara Ackerman of Arnegard, ND. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Recitation of the Rosary will be 7:00 pm, Tuesday, June 14th at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Belgrade, MT. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Wednesday, June 15th at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Belgrade, MT. The Rite of Committal will be 1:00 pm Thursday, June 16 at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bozeman, MT. Alice requested memorials be made to Habitat for Humanity, 230 Arden Drive, Belgrade, MT 59714 as she enjoyed her volunteer work at the ReStore in Belgrade, MT.
