Blackwood (Mary) Alene Pitman Blackwood passed away January 16, 2009 at the age of 82. Alene was born in Bozeman on November 18, 1926, the second child to Virgil and Margaret Pitman. She attended grade school in Belgrade and graduated from Rosary High School in 1944. She earned her nursing diploma through the Cadet Nursing Corps program at Columbus Hospital in Great Falls in preparation for service in World War II. She finished nursing school in September of 1947 and worked intermittently at the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. Burr and Alene first met at a sledding party at Alene#8217;s relatives 70 years ago, and then dated throughout high school. Alene married Burr, her high school sweetheart, on November 26, 1947 at Holy Rosary Church. Alene was actively involved in Middle Creek Home Demonstration Club, a member and chairperson of the Rosary School Board and involved with the Gallatin Good Sam#8217;s Club. She was an avid bowler, pinochle player, cook and seamstress. She enjoyed attending the activities of her grandkids and watching sports. Two of her favorite teams were the Cincinnati Reds and the Denver Broncos. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren: MaryKay Minor and her children Emily and Lisa Minor; Connie Krogstad and her sons Jeff (Neal) Krogstad, Pat (Melissa) Krogstad, and their children Carson and Brayden, and her daughter Karen Krogstad; Clint Blackwood and his son Brian (Lissa Hall) Blackwood, his daughter Kori (Cody) Wilson, and their children Hayden and Hailey, his daughter Kristi Jo Blackwood and her daughter Maiya; Peggy (Dennis) Haderlie, and their sons Sean, Robert and Michael; Sheila Ducello and her sons Doug (Morgin) Nicholaus and Zach Ducello. She is also survived by sister-in-law Bev Borer, brother and sister-in-law Rich (Dick) and Marion Blackwood. She is also survived by sister-in-law Mary Frances Pitman and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Margaret Pitman, her sister and brother-in-law Pat and Boone Tidball, and her brother Dick Pitman. Visitation will be Monday, January 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at Noon Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at the Resurrection Catholic Church, followed by burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery Memorials in her honor may be made to Bozeman Senior Companion Program, 807 North Tracy, Bozeman, MT 59715
