Rickey Dennis Peuse

May 20, 1946 — December 5, 2013

Rickey Dennis Peuse, 67, loyal husband, loving and devoted father, brother, and grandfather passed away at his home on December 5, 2013. Rick was the first child born May 20, 1946 in Glendive, Montana to Dovlyn Ilene (Murphy) and Gordon August Peuse. He had one brother, Randy. Rick spent his early years 12 miles west of Glendive where his grandparents had homesteaded in the late 1800s. In 1955 Rick moved closer to Glendive where his family farmed and raised cattle and horses. Rick graduated from Dawson County High School in 1964 and began working at the Peuse Coal Mine. Rick attended college in Billings at Eastern Montana College. In the spring of 1967 Rick returned to Glendive to assist his family with the farm, which he eventually took over operations. It was at this time that Rick met the love of his life, Dallas Kalloch, whom he married in 1973. Rick and Dallas had their first daughter Rainey in 1974, a second daughter Regan in 1976, a son Riley in 1979, a third daughter Reva in 1983 and their last son Rowdy in 1987. Rick and Dallas raised their family of five children and his greatest joy was watching them grow into adults and parents themselves. Rick eventually settled in southwestern Montana, continuing to raise cattle and race thoroughbred and quarter horses. Rick had his ups and downs in racing, but he always said this is just part of the game. Rick was a lifelong fan of both the Minnesota Twins and Vikings and enjoyed watching the games with his family. Rick loved all kinds of music, Coca-Cola, and popcorn and he loved sharing them with family and friends (especially his grandkids). Rick had a big smile and an even bigger heart and he never went anywhere without his music and a story to tell. Once he knew you he considered you family. Rick had a strength of character that was evident from the moment you met him and he was never afraid to stand up for what he believed in. Rick loved being a grandpa and his grandchildren have been fortunate to spend countless hours and days with him. He cherished the time he could spend with them as they grew and it was evident that it brought him great joy. Rick measured the wealth in his life not in money but by all the blessings he received from his family and friends, which he counted as innumerable. Rick taught us to slow down and enjoy the journey, value the time spent with each other, and take the time to look around at your surroundings and find joy in the beauty you see-He found it everywhere and in everyone. Even though he is on another leg of his journey we know we’ll see his smile again. Rick is preceded in death by his mother, Dovlyn Ilene and father, Gordon. Rick leaves behind a loving family including his wife of 40 years Dallas of Bozeman, five children Rainey (Mike (Kinzley)) Peuse of Bozeman; Regan (Joe (Marley, Boden)) Brekke of Bozeman: Reva (Ty (Jase, Briahna)) Peuse of Bozeman; Riley (Jami) Peuse of Columbia Falls; and Rowdy Peuse of Columbia Falls. He also leaves with us a beloved brother Randy Peuse. Rick will leave his legacy with us in his three treasured grandchildren Marley, Boden and Kinzley. Rick also leaves a large extended group of family and friends that he met along the way. Rick made a big impression on the people in his life. He was loved dearly and will be missed. A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Bozeman. A reception will follow at Hogan’s Crane Service, 520 Business Hub Drive, Belgrade.
