Myrtle Helen Mclaughlin

May 9, 1918 — December 3, 2013

Myrtle Helen McLaughlin, 95, of Bozeman, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013. She was born May 9, 1918 in Wilsall, Montana to Arthur and Emma (Maddox) Kurk. Myrtle was raised on a farm at Sunny Side north of Sedan, MT and attended and graduated from Bozeman schools. She moved to Bozeman passing over Battle Ridge in a covered sleigh in the winter of 1927. Myrtle was a member of the 1940 semi-pro state champion softball team with her sisters. She married William M. McLaughlin on December 21, 1941. She worked for Gallatin Co-op Creamery, Egg Candler, Ralph’s IGA, Woolworths and Gibsons. She was a 52 year member of the Eagles and a 30 year participant in the Bozeman Bowling League. Myrtle enjoyed volunteering for Eagles charities, cooking, embroidery and flowers. She knitted blankets for all of her grandchildren and some of her great-grandchildren. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends. Myrtle was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; brothers Lester, James and Harold; and sisters Margaret Williams and Lavina Chadbourne. She is survived by: her sister Mildred Ward; sister-in-laws Barbara Kurk, Erma Kurk and Bea McLaughlin; children William (Rita) McLaughlin, Richard (Carla) McLaughlin, Carl (Terry) McLaughlin, Ed (Kathy) McLaughlin and Helen (Robert) Cosgriff; eighteen grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. She was known as Gramma Mac by everyone she met. Visitation will be held from 10:00am-12:00pm on Friday, December 6, 2013 followed by a funeral service at 12:00pm at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place at Sunset Hills Cemetery. A reception starts at 1:30pm at the Eagles.
